We still here for Ice Spice? // Kendrick Lamar annouces Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans // Rich Homie Quan and Fatman Scoops’ contributions to Hip Hop // Ayra Starr is the one! + More

Am I the only one who thinks Ice Spice is hilarious? Not in a humorous way…. it’s more her personality. Some of the things she does is comical, and I like Ice Spice, but I’m not feeling the recent stories in the media.

As women, many of us have mean girl traits, however, as a public figure and upcoming Hip Hop Artist, Ice has work to do when it comes to sisterhood.

Not trying to get too deep with this post…. I’m sure you already heard her friend and fellow Entertainer, CleoTrapa’s humiliating recount of her experience while on Ice Spice’s Y2K Tour (if not, you can watch Room4Tea’s videos).

I just hope they can make amends because they seem like they balance each other out. Not to mention all the times Ice used Cleo as her sidekick for music videos and industry events.

CleoTrapa is the pretty, fun, cool friend, who lifts the other girls up. She’s actually the funny one.

Ice Spice is the friend with swag and a lot of “confidence”, she know’s how to talk ish and get what she wants. But that’s where it becomes comical. She’s peak ‘go on girl, give us nothing’. A cute girl, with a body who can spit, but lacks personality, enthusiam, and style.

When Munch first dropped, I thought, “What is this??” Then I said okay, “Let me not hate.” It’s something for the kiddos. Then a story came out about her booking fee being too high for an appearance, and I thought “Who is the girl, and where did she come from?” Shortly after, Ice had social media on tilt. Hundreds of young people popped out on 42nd St in New York City, for her Bikini Bottom music video, and yes! It was lit!

But for me, it was her features with PinkPantheress (Boy’s A Liar), and Nicki Minaj (Princess Diana) & (Barbie World), that really made me pay attention.

Ice seemed cool, despite her short-lived beef with Latto. Being from The Bronx, she always responds with witty and quick sarcasm - which I love. The energy in Think You The Shxt (Fart), got me through a tough few weeks this past Winter. Lol.

I was hyped when she dropped her Y2K EP, late July, and even watched her album premiere on Kai Cenat’s Live Stream. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the project.

I’m guessing Ice named the album Y2K because she was born in 2000, but, none of the tracks reflect music during that time. It’s a Bronx Drill/Trap project and I wish her and Riot got more creative with the production to include; samples, mixes, and mashups, something like what Cardi B did with Invasion of Privacy.

Outside of #TYTS (Fart), my favorite tracks are Plenty Sun, Bxtch I’m Packin’ ft. Gunna, and Popa.

In other Hip Hop news, Kendrick Lamar announced he will be performing at next year’s 2025 NFL Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Sunday, and the culture is divided.

While many agree, Kendrick had a great year, as a result of his beef with Drake and the success of Not Like Us and Euphoria, others are disappointed by the news, as many feel Lil’ Wayne was overlooked and snubbed by Jay Z/Roc Nation for the headlining spot.

The major debate is that Lil’ Wayne is not only a legendary artist and a trendsetter in Hip Hop, but he’s also a NOLA native and should have the opportunity to headline “the most watched telecast in American history.”

Nicki Minaj (who just dropped another sneaker collaboration with DTLR, Nicki Minaj x LOCI), Birdman, and Lil’ Wayne’s Manager have been the most vocal. Here’s Empressive Channel’s recap of their responses.

While I would love to see Lil’ Wayne perform on the SuperBowl stage in his hometown, I also feel like he’s not ready.

He does have a few months to prepare, however. Personally, even more than a Lil’ Wayne performance, I would love to see a Cash Money Millionaires performance with the whole crew in New Orleans.

We’ll just have to wait until February to see what new surprises Kendrick pulls out his LA Fitted.

Update: By the way, Kendrick just dropped an untitled new song on Instagram, seemingly coming at the industry. Listen to the new track fans named “Watch The Party Dxe” and listen to TDE Artist Doechii’s thoughts on K. Dot and Lil’ Wayne on The Joe Budden’s Podcast.

Wrapping up recent Hip Hop news, I want to share my condolences for Rich Homie Quan, who died last week. Quan had a crazy run of bangers, hit after hit, in the 2010’s, songs like Type of Way, My Nxgga, and Flex (Ohh, Ohh, Ohh) got the crowd turnt at any party.

Here’s a mix of his biggest hits and a snippet of his newest single, Ah’chi. Rich Homie Quan will be deeply missed.

Condolences to BeatKing who died suddenly while making a press appearance a few weeks ago, and New York City’s legendary Hip Hop Hypeman and DJ Fatman Scoop who died in a similar fashion.

Fatman Scoop known for his mashup features with Missy (Loose Control), Mariah Carey (Like That) and the Faith Evans Mashup (Be Faithful), unfortunately, passed while DJing a party in Connecticut last week. The beauty is - he was doing what he loved. Check out Diamond Kuts’ mix of his hits.

Scoop will be remembered tomorrow September 12, at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC for those interested in attending his memorial service. See details below.

Coincidently, Fatman Scoop also produced a remix for Beyonce’s rendition of the Legend Frankie Beverly’s, Before I Let Go, the Black Anthem for celebrations, summertime cookouts, and reunions.

And sadly, we lost the Incomparable Frankie Beverly last night.

Happy to hear he was honored at Essence Festival last year in New Orleans.

Rest Easy King. You will be remembered eternally for generations to come.

Lighting up the mood…. Everyone needs to go stream Ayra Starr’s, The Year I Turn 21 Album.

I know the album was released in May and I’m a little late, but seriously - get into it!

I realized Ayra was hot immediately when I heard her break out hit, and saw the video for her Afrobeats banger Rush. I loved the styling and visuals.

The Nigerian beauty then bodied her feature on the People Remix with Libianca and couldn’t wait to see her perform during Chris Brown’s 11:11 Tour at Barclay’s Center.

She had a great performance as expected, but I still hadn’t listened to the album until last month. Well similar to my tardiness with Tem’s, For Broken Ears, I finally listened and I’m hooked!

The Year I Turn 21, is a really cohesive project and impressively mature for Ayra’s age.
